HAMPTON -- Part of a busy road in Hampton is closed so crews can repair a burst sewer line.

The line broke around 11 a.m. on Charlton Road near Raymond Road in the Riverdale neighborhood.

Southbound lanes will be closed for several hours, said Sgt. Jason Price.

A Public Works employee says his crew is digging up the line to find the break and will then make repairs.

It's not clear what made the pipe burst.

Drivers can use Armistead Avenue as an alternate route.
