VIRGINIA BEACH - Will Sessoms will keep his job as mayor of Va. Beach.

Challenger Rick Kowalewitch conceded at 10:35 p.m.; Wally Erb was third in the polling.

Virginia Beach is the Commonwealth's most populous city.

Sessoms was elected mayor in 2008. He began his political career in 1988 as an at-large member of the City Council. In 1992, he was chosen vice mayor by fellow council members and held that post for a decade.

Sessoms is a supporter of extending light rail to Va. Beach. There was no final outcome of the non-binding referendum on that issue, but votes supporting the continued study bringing light rail to Va. Beach were ahead of votes against it.
