NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are looking for two suspects who allegedly shot a man in the leg while he was walking on the side of the road in Newport News.

According to Newport News Police spokesperson Harold Eley, officers located a 31-year-old Newport News man on Sunday, who was lying in a yard near Sundown Lane and Woods Road. He was shot in the thigh.

The victim told police he was walking to the store when two unknown males got out of a white vehicle and shot him.

Eley says the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his cash. The victim pulled his cell phone from his pocket, threw it to the ground and attempted to run away. At that point Eley says, one or both of the suspects opened fire, striking the man in the leg.

The males got back into a waiting white vehicle, possibly a Kia four-door sedan, and fled the scene, Eley said.

The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The first suspect is described as a medium build, black male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, 175 pounds, mid- to late-twenties, and was wearing a white hat and white shirt, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.

The second suspect is a medium build, black male, average height and build, and was wearing a black jacket and lighter colored blue jeans, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
