JAMES CITY COUNTY-- Police arrested a man Friday they say stole a horse from a local farm.

Police took into custody Eddie Raymond Barker, 59, of Forge Road for grand larceny, breaking & entering with the intent to commit larceny, and misdemeanor animal cruelty in connection with the theft of a horse from a farm also on Forge Road.

Police say Barker entered a stable stall on October 24th and stole a 9yr old Hanoverain Thoroughbred Cross horse named 'Windchill.'

The horse was later found the next day loose on the caretaker's property where the horse was being boarded.

Barker attempted to disguise the horse's markings by covering them up with spray paint due to the media attention about the theft. The horse was examined by a veterinarian who reported some minor injuries.

Barker has been released from the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
