HAMPTON - Hampton University has a shot at basketball glory this weekend when the 12th seeded Lady Pirates take on the 5th seeded Michigan State Spartans.

'We're real happy [with a 12 seed]. We're elated,' Coach David Six said. 'I thought we were a 12, and it's nice to see the NCAA did the right thing.'

The players are leaving early Friday morning for their first-round game in Chapel Hill on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

This is the first time Hampton and Michigan State have played each other.

The team gathered at the Convocation Center on campus prior to their departure and even got in an quick practice around 6 a.m. Friday.

All-conference forward Alyssa Bennett says she's feeling confident.

'I really can't wait for this game, this opportunity, because this is a once in a lifetime, my last chance, ' Bennett said. 'I'm a senior, I gotta go out with a bang.'

Coach David Six says his team is ready for the big game.

The Lady Pirates have won five consecutive MEAC tournaments. Their record this year is 28-4.
