POQUOSON - In Poquoson near the end of Messick Road, water from Front and Back Cove has come ashore, making part of the road impassable.

At Bill Forrest Seafood, water was mid-calf high and rising on Sunday morning.

Many people on the strip of land had moved their vehicles to higher ground to the nearby Food Lion and Poquoson Middle School.

Poquoson is no stranger to flooding. According to the City's Website, Poquoson's elevation is lower than 7 feet above mean sea level. In the more recent years, severe floods have occurred in 1933, 1962, 1998 and 2003 with waters rising well over 7 feet above mean sea level.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. Sunday, the City will open a public information hotline at 757-868-3000 to answer questions throughout the storm.
