NEWPORT NEWS (AP) -- Christopher Newport University will receive $12 million from Ferguson over the next 30 years.

The university says the donation will support community service programs, provide scholarships and enhance cultural experiences at the Ferguson Center for the Arts.

The university and Ferguson announced the gift Wednesday.

Newport News-based Ferguson is a wholesale distributor of residential and commercial plumbing supplies and pipe, valves and fittings , along with waterworks and industrial products.

University officials say the agreement includes naming rights for the Ferguson Center for the Arts through 2042, the creation of Ferguson performing arts scholarships, and support of CNU's Center for Community Engagement, which develops and facilitates service opportunities for students, faculty and community partners, directly benefiting our neighbors in the Hampton Roads community and beyond.
