YORK COUNTY -- York County residents need to keep a close eye on their mailboxes after a recent rash of mail thefts.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff's Department is investigating nine reported incidents of stolen mail.

Lt. Dennis Ivey says in one case, stolen mail was found in a drainage ditch on Water Fowl Drive.

Ivey says most of the incidents have happened in the Tabb Lakes and Dare areas and the thief has been stealing out-going mail, especially envelopes containing checks.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
