UPDATE: Battalion Chief Tracy Freeman told that neighbors reported seeing a light on in one of the apartments last night and that there were signs of squatters overnight.
The fire was put out in about 10 minutes
A woman who lives next door suffered a cut when windows in her home blew out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; investigators are working to determine whether there was an active gas line to the complex. Virginia Natural Gas officials say there doesn't appear to be an issue with their system in the area.

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Va. Beach firefighters are on the scene of an apartment fire.

Authorities tell that calls came in about fire and a possible explosion at 315 15th Street around 6:50 a.m.

So far, no injuries have been reported and crews are searching each floor to make sure no one was inside.

People who live by the building say it was vacant because it's undergoing renovations.

One woman said she heard an explosion and then saw smoke coming from the first floor.

Crews also have secured the gas line to the building.

Meantime, 15th Street between Arctic Crescent and Pacific Avenue is closed for the firefight and investigation.
