NORFOLK-- There is a new policy at the Virginia Zoo that bans volunteers from working with exotic exhibit animals.
They call it the 'Bears' policy and it stands for Behavior Enrichment and Animal Resource Squad.
The idea is to move volunteers away from dangerous animals and closer to the kinder, gentler ones.
It's all about safety and liability.
'You have to follow safety precautions absolutely to the letter and I think everyday at the zoo the chance to do our job better and to do things more safely and that's not anything anyone should ever take lightly,' said Education Directory Allyson Zahm.
Just this week, an intern in California was killed by a lion at the Fresno County Cat Javen.
