HAMPTON Saturday marks the anniversary of the tragedy at Columbine High school.
On April 20, 1999, 12 students and a teacher were shot dead in Littleton, Colorado when two students opened fire.
Rachel Joy Scott was the first student killed at Columbine.
Her father found a journal she wrote about how she wanted to inspire students to be better people and kind to each other.
That evolved into Rachel's Challenge, a national program that tries to encourage acts of kindness in schools and decrease negative behavior like bullying.
It's now part of about 20 schools here in Hampton Roads.
Phoebus High school in Hampton signed on just yesterday.
