PORTSMOUTH -- The City of Portsmouth plans to purchase goats to help maintain the lawn at the Craney Island landfill for a fraction of the cost of mowing.

The city will purchase ten goats at about $70 each, and $5,000 worth of fencing, compared to hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment for mowing.

'For the next six months we'll do a case study to see how this works out and at the conclusion of that case study we'll go back to council in in january and give them our finding,' said Dennis Bagley of the City of Portsmouth.

Craney Island is used to dispose of construction and demolition debris, like wood and trees.
