ELIZABETH CITY, NC-- An Elizabeth City man is in serious condition at a Norfolk hospital after he was allegedly attacked by his father Saturday.

Police say 52-year-old Demetre Gibbs stabbed his son, 29-year-old Demetre Whidbee, several times in the 200 block of Roanoke Avenue.

Witnesses told police that Gibbs began yelling at Whidbee and then attacked his son, cutting him at least twice with the knife.

According to police, Whidbee had severe lacerations to his right bicep and under his chin, just above his throat. Gibbs also had tattered clothing and a bloody shirt.

Whidbee was transported to Albemarle Hospital and was transferred to Norfolk Sentara with serious injuries.

Gibbs has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injuries.

Bond was set at $75,000.
