NORFOLK -- Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance plans sold on state exchanges will be separated into four categories - platinum, gold, silver and bronze - which will designate the share of your health care that will be covered.

How much you pay for the plan per month depends on how much you make.

The platinum plan covers 90 percent of medical costs, you'll be responsible to pay about 10 percent out of pocket. The gold plan covers 80 percent, silver covers 70 percent, and bronze covers 60 percent of your out of pocket costs.

The federal government recommends that if you make frequent doctor visits or need costly prescriptions you should consider a gold or platinum plan. If you don't have a lot of regular health care costs, a silver or bronze plan might be a better choice, but understand that you'll pay more out of your own pocket if you have an unexpected health issue.
