HAMPTON -- Police and fire officials responded to a report of a suspicious package in Hampton Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the call in the 400 block of Celey Street near Victoria Boulevard around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The Newport News Bomb Squad was called in a short time later to inspect the package.

Officials detonated the package and determined there was nothing hazardous inside, according to Hampton Fire Chief Jeff Pareira.

It is not clear exactly what was inside the packages or who may have left it there. An investigation is still underway.
