VIRGINIABEACH--The Hampton Roads community is turning out in a big way this weekend, all to help out a much larger cause.

ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition will surprise one local family with a new home next week.

But before that comes a city-wide food drive in partnership with the show. The food drive team is out to collect 153 tons of food for families in need. That's the most food ever collected as part of the Extreme Home Makeover Show.

Saturday volunteers danced their way closer to that goal.

At a collection site on Virginia Beach Blvd, the Liberty Tax Service hosted an event, that included a DJ, free lunch and other incentives to donate. But for the organizers helping those in need was incentive enough.

The food collected as part of the Extreme Makeover effort will go directly to families in need throughout Hampton Roads.

The Foodbaeks of Southeast Virginia, the Virginia Peninsula and the Albemarle are encouraging everyone to donate non-perishable food items.
