VIRGINIA BEACH-Children are still enjoying time away from school, but it won't be long until they are back in the classroom.

ABC13, Chick-fil-A, Farm Fresh and Grand Furnishings are teaming up again this year to make sure needy students have the 'Write Stuff' for the first day of school. Donations of supplies like book bags, notebooks, pencils and more are being accepted all month.

'We are thrilled to continue our work with the Salvation Army on this very worthwhile project,' said ABC13 General Manager Brad Ramsey. 'I cannot think of a better cause than helping local children in need start the school year off with the supplies they need to have a successful year. I hope the Hampton Roads community will rally with us to make this the best campaign yet.'

At Chick-fil-A from August 12-17, each person who makes a donation will receive a coupon for a free breakfast item. Donations always skyrocket with this offer, organizers say.

This is a good weekend for the kickoff since it's the Virginia and North Carolina tax-free holiday for school supplies. So, while you're shopping for your own family, consider picking up something to help others.

The items will be distributed to select families through the Salvation Army.
