RICHMOND (AP) -- Tuesday's the deadline for Virginians to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.

The Virginia State Board of Elections wants people to check their registration status and polling place on the board's website or by calling their local registrar's office.

Voter registration applications sent by mail must be postmarked by Tuesday. Applications are available at the local registrars' offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles or on the board's website.

Virginia voters will decide statewide races for governor, attorney general and lieutenant governor.

In North Carolina, the deadline to register to vote is 25 days before the day of an election.
