UPDATE4/15: A man is charged with arson for allegedly setting the fire that put a family out of their home last Thursday. Investigators say KennethR. Carpenter faces one arson count for setting the fire on April 10 and a second count for attempting to burn the same home on March 30.

HAMPTON -- Investigators are working to determine what sparked fire at a home in Hampton early Thursday.

Crews were called to 600 Chapel Street just before 6 a.m. and had the fire out within 30 minutes, said Captain Jeff Pereira with Hampton Fire-Rescue.

The owner of the house posted on the WVEC13 Facebook page that everyone is safe but the family can't stay there because of the damage.

Capt. Periera said there is extensive damage to the home.
