SOUTHAMPTON CO. - 60 jobs will be created when that Hampton Farms opens a new peanut butter plant in Southampton County.

The company, America's leading roaster of in-shell peanuts, is investing $5.5 million.

G. Dallas Barnes, president & CEO of family-owned Hampton Farms, said in a news release Thursday, 'We believe the relocation to Southampton/Franklin will be a great fit for Hampton Farms, and affords Hampton the benefit of immediate and long term expansion.'

The company has two roasting facilities in North Carolina - in Severn and in Edenton. A third is in Springfield, Massachusetts and the fourth is in Portales, New Mexico, according to the company Website.

There was no information in the release about the time frame for construction, an opening date and how soon applications would be accepted.
