VIRGINIA BEACH-Virginia Beach may take on a more urban feel.

Residents Thursday night got a look at the plans that would mean taller buildings and mix-use areas instead of adding parking lots and strip malls.

'The goal is to build mixed use facilities for places for people to live work and play as well as create an active street to bring the buildings closer to the street, minimizing the amount of parking visible from the street,' explained J. Barry Frankenfield with the city's Strategic Growth Area office.

The proposed zoning changes will be presented to the Planning Commission in October and then to City Council in November.
