NEWPORT NEWS -- The U.S Army Training and Doctrine Command is getting ready for a new leader.
Gen. David G. Perkins, former Commanding General of the Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., will assume command from Gen. Robert W. Cone on March 14 in a ceremony on Fort Eustis.
The 38th Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, will preside over the ceremony.
Perkins, the 21st CAC Commander, relinquished command on February 13. He is well known for his leadership during the 'Thunder Run' to Baghdad in 2003, when he commanded 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division (Mechanized), a key unit in that operation.
Cone has commanded TRADOC since April 2011 and will be retiring.
The mission of TRADOC is to develop, educate and train Soldiers, civilians, and leaders. TRADOC supports unit training and designs, builds and integrates a versatile mix of capabilities, formations, and equipment to strengthen the U.S. Army as America's force of decisive action.
