VIRGINIA BEACH--A former Virginia Beach middle school teacher was found guilty in General District Court of being drunk on school grounds.

Jessica S. Snyder, 28, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge of public intoxication, but she was found guilty and ordered to pay a $200 fine Wednesday.

Snyder was charged on Oct. 25 when it was reported she fell in the hallway of Plaza Middle School.

She was a first-year French teacher at the school and police stressed Snyder had not been in contact with any of her students at the time.

Snyder resigned the day after her arrest, said school spokeswoman Kathy O'Hara.
