IVORY COAST -- The death toll is expected to rise after a crowd leaving a New Year's fireworks show turned into a stampede.

61 people were killed and more than 200 were injured .

Most of the people killed were between 8 and 15 years old.

Thousands of people had gathered at a stadium to watch the show.

The government organized the fireworks to celebrate peace in the Ivory Coast.

There had been several months of political violence in 2011 following some disputed elections.
