WASHINGTON DC-- Newly elected Senator Tim Kaine weighed in on the gun control debate with an op-ed piece in the Washington Post.

The former Virginia Governor says when Richmond had the second highest homicide rate in the United States, the state enacted stricter penalties for gun crimes, which eventually lowered violence.

Kaine believes Americans are ready to support what he calls, 'concrete steps needed to sharply reduce the chances of another mass shooting.'
