SUFFOLK -- A tractor trailer went off the road and hit a light pole in Suffolk early Thursday, forcing police to close one lane for much of the morning.

The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Pruden Boulevard/Route 460 near the intersection of Gardner Lane.

Virginia Dominion Power crews were working to repair the pole; no outages were reported.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

At 4:30 a.m., authorities were waiting for a tow truck to get to the scene and remove the rig. One lane was open eastbound and officers were alternating traffic. Authorities hoped to have the road open by the morning rush.
