NORFOLK -- Old Dominion University's Spring football season kicks off April 12 with the inaugural ODU Big Blue 5K.

It's sponsored by J&A Racing of Virginia Beach and the Old Dominion Athletic Foundation.

Runners and walkers will make their way through the ODU campus and finish at Foreman Field at S.B Ballard Stadium.

Until the game, participants can enjoy BBQ, food, beer, wine, non-alcoholic beverages, live music, and an appearance by the ODU Men's Basketball team.

'This is already such an exciting time for ODU's football program with it being their first year in the Conference USA, and we are thrilled about this opportunity to help kick things off. GO BIG BLUE,' said J&A Racing co-owner and ODU alum Amy Frostick.

'As we continue to build local interest and support for our spring football game, we have noted that special events and other activities that anchor the day have proven to be successful at other schools,' says ODU director of athletics Dr. Wood Selig. 'The 5K race is a perfect way to start the day and leads nicely into the afternoon with our annual Big Blue BBQ and the spring game, followed by our baseball team hosting conference opponent East Carolina.'
