JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS -- After 50 years, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Harold T. Campbell received the Bronze Star Medal for his service in Vietnam.
U.S. Rep. Robert Wittman presented Lt. Col. Campbell with the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service as the detachment commander in support of aerial combat operations, 140th Transportation Detachment (Cargo Helicopter Field Maintenance), 117 Aviation Company from August 15, 1963 to May 1, 1964, while deployed to the Republic of Vietnam.
The Bronze Star Medal, created in 1944, is awarded to service members who have distinguished themselves in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.
The ceremony for Lt. Col. Campbell was at the Transportation Museum Thursday.
Lt. Col. Campbell retired from active-duty service in Hawaii in 1981. After years of working for the state of Hawaii, he returned to Virginia in 2004 and currently lives in Williamsburg with his wife Anne.
