NEWPORT NEWS -- Damage to a house in the 600 block of 48th Street in Newport News displaced the resident and cause the structure to be condemned.
In a news release, the Newport News Fire Department said they responded to a reported house fire with an individual inside in the 600 Block of 48th Street at 2:50 pm Saturday afternoon. The first unit arrived on the scene at 2:52 pm and reported smoke showing.
First responders found that everyone was out of the house and safe. There were no reported injuries to civilians or department personnel.
The fire was declared under control at 3:28 pm.
The Red Cross has been asked to offer help to the resident. A spokesperson said the cause appears to be accidental.
