WILLIAMSBURG A 5-year-old battling brain cancer got a special Christmas surprise from first responders.

York fire, sheriff and State Police escorted Nathan Norman to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg. The best part for little Nathan was seeing his heroes. 'People that save lives are his heroes,' Dad Bobby Norman said.

Nathan has been fighting cancer for the past four years. Last September, he told his mom that Christmas lights would make him feel better. So three months early, the decorations went up. The entire community came together, even signing Christmas carols in October.

Soon, the boy had a mailbox full of cards from around the world. York county fire chiefs saw the story on 13NEWS and wanted to help. 'As you can see, it has grown tremendously with everyone wanting to be part of this,' Battalion Chief Jeffrey Paine said.

Nathan's father was overwhelmed by all the love. 'It was hard to fight back the tears, seeing this love for my child and family.'
