WILLIAMSBURG - One of the Peninsula's first outlet shopping malls is closing its doors.

The Williamsburg Outlet Mall is expected to close at year's end, following the Christmas shopping season. That will give the 17 stories still there, many of which are locally-owned, a final holiday to pull a profit.

The mall opened in the seventies and was a major shopping destination, sometimes attracting busloads of shoppers from out of town and out of state.

Henry Wan owns New Concept Gifts, a sports apparel and memorabilia store which has been at the mall for 16 years.'I think this is an opportunity for me to expand my business. I have been thinking about moving for awhile,' Wan said.

The owners of the mall haven't decided what will happen to the property when it closes.
