PORTSMOUTH---There are new questions surrounding closures at the Downtown Tunnel which begin next weekend.

Portsmouth business owners are asking tunnel officials to delay rehabilitation work on the westbound tube until the end of the summer.

They're worried about what the closures of the westbound lanes will mean for their bottom lines.

'We are going to condition people,' said restaurant owner Charles Greenhood. 'There is going to be a paradigm shift in the way people carry on their weekend activities.'

Officials with Elizabeth River Crossings explain starting the closures now, instead of waiting, will allow them to get more work done leading into the holidays, when the tunnel has to stay open under the current contract.
