SUFFOLK -- Beginning today, school will start earlier for students at one Suffolk high school.

To improve bus transportation schedules for middle and elementary schools in the northern part of the city, the school board voted to change the school hours for Nansemond River High School. Students will now go the school 8:15 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

The change comes after parents complained their children were late by as much as two hours during the first two weeks of school.

The school system reports they saved half a million dollars by combining bus routes. Parents told 13News Now they know the change was for the sake of saving money, but some said the school may have saved money but they earned a headache.

A letter was sent home to inform families of the change. The division also said it made school messenger notification calls with information on the schedule change.
