VIRGINIA BEACH - The Race for Breath, which raises money for lung cancer research, is coming up this Saturday.
It's the 10th year for the race and organizers hope to raise $100,000.
There's a Race for Breath 5K Run/Walk, a 1-mile walk and Kid's Fun Run on November 2. After the race, there will be music, a silent auction and an after party! The runners and walkers take off at 9:00 a.m. from the Va. Beach Boardwalk at 24th Street and Atlantic Avenue.
For more information, go to the race website.
The race is the brainchild of Nicole Piette, Stacy Emanuel Peterson and Kelly Burke Jennings, who lost their mothers to lung cancer. In the event's first nine years, nearly $1 million has been raised for Lung Cancer Alliance. The Alliance provides live, professional support, referral and information services for patients, their loved ones and those at risk for lung cancer; advocates for multiple millions in public health dollars for lung cancer research; and conducts national awareness campaigns.
Organizers say lung cancer is the leading cause of all cancer deaths and takes the lives of more people each year than breast, prostate and colon cancers.
