NEWPORT NEWS -- Crews battled a house fire in the 1200 Block of 25th Street in Newport News Monday afternoon.

According to Chief Pincus with the Newport News Fire Dept., the first crews arrived around noon to find smoke and flames coming from the three-story home.

Officials say there are five apartments inside the home. Nobody was injured.

Fire officials think the fire started on the first floor.

This house was subdivided into five apartments. The house was condemned due to the damage, and Virginia Power disconnected power to the residence. The Red Cross is assisting 16 people who were displaced.

Crews battled a second fire in the 1000 block of Garden Drive around 1 p.m.

Smoke could be seen coming out of the one-story apartment.

There was smoke damage throughout the entire department and fire damage to one room estimated to be around $15,000.

Red Cross is helping one adult and three children who were displaced.

This fire is currently under investigation.
