SUFFOLK -- The ride will soon be a lot smoother for people who drive on Main Street and West Washington Street in downtown Suffolk.

Work will done in several phases, beginning Thursday at 7 p.m., and should be completed by early May.

The asphalt overlay project will greatly improve the appearance and riding surface of our most heavily traveled roadway in downtown Suffolk, says City spokeswoman Diana Klink.

During the work, flaggers will be on scene to direct traffic. The work will be done on Main Street from Constance Road to Washington Street and on W. Washington Street at Main Street to Saratoga Street.

Klink says the area is the most heavily traveled in the city.
