NORFOLK -- School officials in Norfolk encourage parents of three and four-year-olds to register their children for Pre-K before all available spots are filled.

The kickoff of Norfolk Public Schools' Pre-K and Kindergarten round-up began Tuesday.

Each year, more than 200 kids are put on the waiting list for Pre-K.

Superintendent Dr. Samuel King would like to expand early learning for 3 and 4-year-olds. However, he estimates getting kids off the waiting list would cost more than $4 million.

'It is our premise that 100 percent of our families need quality early learning. And when you consider that notion, then you will quickly realize that has a huge price tag,' King said.

Sign-up events are April 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30 and will be held at a different high school for each date.
