UPDATE 8/6: The Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old Tommy Lee Able Engle was canceled Wednesday afternoon. The boy and his father, 34-year-old Tommy Lee Travis Engle, were found unharmed in Pikeville, Kentucky, according to Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.

Smith said he was contacted by Engle shortly after midnight and that dialogue continued throughout the early morning hours until he was apprehended.

'During the conversations with Engle, he would tell us that the child was fine, he let us talk to his son and he would send us text message pictures of the child,' the Sheriff said. 'I felt much better about the situation once we were able to talk about a resolution.'

The father was taken into custody without incident around 12:50 p.m. Wednesday. He is currently wanted on two felony assault charges against the child's mother. He is being held in the Pike County Jail awaiting extradition back to Patrick County.

Smith said Engle has family in Pikeville, Kentucky.
PATRICK COUNTY, VA -- Virginia State Police issued an Amber Alert Tuesday evening for 3-year-old Tommy Lee Able Engle.

The child is believed to be in EXTREME danger according to police and was last seen at 367 Oak Hill Lane Critz, Va located in Patrick County.

They believe his father, 34-year-old Tommy Lee Travis Engle abducted the child earlier in the day. He is described as a white male, 6 feet 3 inches, 200 Lbs, brown hair, brown eyes. The father may be armed with an AK-47 and in possession of a ballistics vest.

Police say this is a parental abduction where the father of the child has made suicidal and homicidal threats. The two may be traveling in a 2000 or 2001 Navy Blue Dodge Neon bearing VA tag WNZ9169.
