UPDATE 12/18:Eric Kevin Downey pleaded guilty today to charges of receipt of child pornography.
Downey was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 5, 2014. Downey faces a mandatory minimum of 5 years and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison when sentenced.
He will be sentenced on March 30, 2015.
NORFOLK -- A Norfolk man is charged with making and possessing child pornography.
Police say they began their investigation of 35-year-old Eric Downey on July 2 and arrested him on August 17.
'A police report was filed by a third party on July 2, 2014 which led to the investigation,' Cpl. Melinda Wray told WVEC.com. 'Although several charges have already been filed, the investigation is still ongoing.'
He's facing 15 charges, including two counts each of unlawful filming and production of child porn, 10 counts of child pornography possession and one count of use of communications device to facilitate crime against children.
Downey, who lives on Dickson Drive, is in the city jail.
He has a preliminary hearing on September 22, Commonwealth's Attorney spokeswoman Amanda Howie told WVEC.com.
