NORFOLK -- Security personnel at Naval Station Norfolk gates will begin scanning new 'Common Access Cards' on Monday, September 24.
The drivers of all 30,000 vehicles which enter Naval Station Norfolk will have their military identification cards electronically scanned by security personnel.
The base commanding officer said Friday there could be an impact on traffic, but the changes are being made to enhance force protection.
The scanning is in the testing phase and no one will be granted or denied admission over the new card, says the Navy.
Although this is essentially practice, personnel should be prepared to present the card when entering the base.
