UPDATE 12/20/13: The unidentified drowning victim has been identified by family and DNA analysis as Michael Ruff, police said. Ruff was 50 years old and homeless at the time he was found.

Update 10/15/13: Based on photographs of the victim at the time he was found, the FBI has prepared a sketch depicting what the victim most likely looked like prior to his death.

Detectives are hopeful that with the sketch someone will recognize the victim and call police making it possible to locate his family and provide for proper handling of the remains.

NEWPORT NEWS - It's been six days since a man's body was pulled from the water in Newport News. Police need your help to identify him.

He was found in the marsh at Peterson's Yacht Basin at 16th Street near Chesapeake Avenue shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 29. He was wearing a yellow Nike shirt, black pants and a gold belt, but he didn't have on any shoes.

The Medical Examiner has tentatively ruled the cause of death as drowning pending toxicology results, said police spokesman Lou Thurston.

He's black, around 5'10' tall, in his 40s or 50s and has a mustache.
