VIRGINIA BEACH - The holiday season is upon us. Parades kicked off the festivities in Norfolk and Hampton this weekend, but the holiday also is a reminder to help people who are struggling.

For the 16th year, Mayflower moving company had its annual food drive.

Organizers say they collected a record-setting 482,589 meals from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 3:00 p.m. Sunday as people dropped off money and non-perishable good at Pembroke Mall in Va. Beach and Peninsula Town Center in Hampton.

All the donations go to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Virginia Peninsula foodbank so they can help families have a Thanksgiving meal.

The Mayflower Marathon Food Drive is sponsored by Classic Rock 106.9 The Fox (WAFX) and FM99 (WNOR).
