NORFOLK - According to police, a man they say held up a bank inside Military Circle Mall on Friday has been taken into custody.

Police say 44-year-old Demetruis Lockhart , who was being sought for a string of recent robberies, robbed the Bank of America inside The Gallery at Military Circle Mall on N. Military Highway around 11:45 a.m..

According to police spokesperson, Karen Parker-Chesson, Lockhart left the scene in a stolen 2000 White Nissan Pathfinder. The car was reported stolen Friday morning in the 1900 block of Saint Dennis Avenue.

At 11:40 Friday morning, police say. Lockhart entered the Bank of America inside Military Circle Mall, threatened a teller with a handgun, and demanded money. Lockhart took an undisclosed money and escaped in the stolen vehicle.

According to police, Lockhart abandoned the stolen vehicle in Chesapeake and hid the handgun and vehicle key in a nearby wooded area.

Around 5:28 pm Friday evening, police received a tip that Lockhart was located in the 1800 block of Carswell Avenue. Police surrounded the area, and Lockhart was arrested without incident.

He was charged with three counts of Robbery, 3 counts of Entering a Bank While Armed, 3 counts Use of Firearm, and Grand Larceny.
