NEWPORT NEWS-- Burglary suspects used a sledge hammer to break into some businesses, subsequently causing a flood from a water line.
The incident happened January 6th around midnight. Two men entered a vacant store front at 15509 Warwick Blvd. and used a sledge hammer to break through the cinder block wall into a Papa Johns Restaurant and a neighboring nail salon. .
During the process of breaking in, a water line was cut causing flooding. The flood stopped the suspects from getting to, what appeared to be their target, a pawnshop in the strip mall.
Once the flooding began, the suspects left.
The suspects were covered head to toe, with gloves, hoods up and masks. Nothing was taken during the break-ins. There was extensive damage to the four businesses.
Police released a surveillance photo of the men Wednesday afternoon.
