HAMPTON - If you need a workout, take part in this weekend's Zumba LOVE Fest.
80 Zumba instructors will be working up a sweat for four hours on Sunday afternoon at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton .
Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance-fitness program. Instructors say there are more than 14 million people taking weekly classes across the country.
Proceeds will be going to the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute for Cancer Research. It's the first of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic and the only one in Virginia. University officials say the state-of-the-art treatment and research center, which opened in August 2010, treats patients with prostate, brain, lung, pediatric, head and neck, breast and other cancers. 65% of patients have prostate cancer.
Proton Therapy is the most precise form of radiation treatment. It targets the tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissue, causing far fewer side effects than traditional therapy.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m. on April 14 and the four-hour workout begins at 2:00 p.m.
The convention center is located at 1610 Coliseum Drive in Hampton.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
