PORTSMOUTH - The second body pulled from the Appomattox River this week is that of 19-year-old Jauwan Holmes of Williamsburg, authorities confirmed Friday..
Investigators say Holmes and 19-year-old Marvell Edmondson were swept away in what police say was a hazing initiation for the group 'Men of Honor.' They were with five other Va. State University students early Saturday.
Edmondson's body was recovered Monday.
Holmes graduated from Bruton High School in York County and was remembered by friends as a young man who had a bright future.
Friends and family gathered Wednesday night to remember Edmondson, whoplayed football at Churchland High School and was a freshmen at Va. State University.
Four men have been charged with hazing; police arrested three of them, who are from Newport News, on Tuesday and officers continue to look for the fourth-Charles E. Zollicoffer II.
Chesterfield Co. Police spokeswoman Elizabeth Caroon told WVEC.com Friday, 'There are no additional charges against any of the four suspects at this time.'
In an open letter to the VSU community this week, President Keith Miller said, 'Outdated rituals performed in the name of brotherhood have no place in this better world. As an institution, as a community, we will not tolerate this behavior. We must learn the lessons of Jauwan and Marvell to ensure that these young men's deaths were not in vain.'
