NORFOLK - Norfolk paramedics went to help a man having a medical problem. That's not usual. What is unusual is where they had to go to get him.
He man was on the fifth floor of the new Norfolk Public Library that's being built on E. Plume Street in downtown.
He couldn't walk on his own, so equipment was brought to the fifth floor to get him down.
Using a stretcher was impossible because of the construction, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson, so the Technical Rescue Team packaged the patient into a rescue litter and then brought him down the stairs.
The man, in his 50s, was take to the hospital for further treatment.
