OCRACOKE-- The Coast Guard medevaced an 87-year-old woman Monday from a cruise ship around 38 miles east of Ocracoke.

Personnel aboard the 1,068-foot cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway called the Coast Guard around 11:30 a.m. about a woman in medical distress.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and a flight surgeon from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City flew to the ship.

The crew hoisted the woman and transferred her to awaiting medical personnel at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

The woman's condition is stable.
