PORTSMOUTH -- Investigators worked Saturday to determine what started a fire in a vacant home on Gwin Street.

Deputy Chief Jim Hoffler told 13News Now crews got to the one-story house in the 3200 block of Gwin at 5:52 p.m. At that point, flames and smoke were coming out of the attic. Firefighters had things under control at 6:20 p.m.

Hoffler said no one was hurt, but the heat Saturday was a concern for firefighters who had their vital signs checked periodically.

The fire started outside the rear of the house, went into the crawl space, then into hidden areas in the home.

An investigator is working to determine how the fire started.
