ACCOMACK COUNTY - Firefighters were out early Thursday battling smoke and flames in a vacant commercial building in the 29500 block on Lankford Highway. Va. State Police investigators say the fire was spotted around 4:00 a.m.

That's the 62nd suspicious fire in Accomack County since November 12, 2012. Investigators say nearly three-quarters of the fires have been discovered between 6:00 p.m. and midnight and most of thetargeted structures have been on primary and secondary routes, which gives the arsonists easy access to come and go without being detected.

'Based on the evidence to date, we are confident that these fires are being set anywhere between an hour to two hours before being discovered,' said Capt. Timothy A. Reibel, Commander of the BCI Chesapeake Field Office.

Since it was set up on February 14, the State Police tip line has received close to 100 calls, texts and emails. A $25,000.00 reward is still available to the person who gives information that leads to an arrest and conviction. The number to text, phone or email is 757-655-1437.
